DUSTY COWGIRL DISCOVERIES
Traversing the globe, discovering distinctly local delights that encapsulate
a destination’s essence.
Embracing Hygge within Hotel Flora, Gothenburg.
Hygge, it’s a Swedish sentiment that encourages little, intentional, moments of comfort, cosiness, togetherness and calm. We loved the sound of it but didn’t know if we should search for it or create it until we stepped into Hotel Flora and found it waiting for us.
Porridge all day, every day? It’s possible at GRØD, Copenhagen.
If my love of porridge is anything to go by, I must have been Golidlocks in a previous life. If only GRØD had been around back then, I need not have risked the wrath of three hungry bears.
Pumpin’ tastes @ Gasoline Grill, Copenhagen
When I told my wife we were pulling into Gasoline Grill for lunch, she expected a dirty street burger. What she got was a world-famous, engine-starting mouthful of prime yummo.
A carnivore’s delight @ War Pigs Brew Pub, Copenhagen
This little piggy went to market, and unlike the pork upon my tray, I made it all the way home, feeling very happy with myself.
Roast beef bliss @ Cafe Trold, Copenhagen
Danish legend states that if you want good luck, you should look out for a troll. If your version of good luck is a sensational meal after a long day, hunt down Copenhagen’s Cafe Trold.
Biting into Berlin’s Big Stuff @ Markthalle Neun
Kreuzberg; it’s bohemian, artsy and has a grittiness to it that gentrification hasn’t yet polished away. The streets are narrow, the multicultural diversity is wide, and the community vibe is strong.
Berlin’s beloved Currywurst!
I devoured my inaugural serving of Berlin’s famous curry wurst on a cold & drizzly day. It was the perfect setting to tuck into a paper plate heaving with hot comfort nosh with an itty bitty bamboo fork
Manifesto Market: Berlin’s Declaration of Delish
Potsdamer Platz, formerly no man's land, has been transformed into a thriving hub for everyone; and Manifesto Market is where you'll find Berlin's tribe of food lovin' locals who dig a zen vibe with a poppin' backbeat.
Bangin’ beefy brilliance @ Burgermeister, Berlin
Tucked beneath the elevated platform of a subway track, Berlin locals gather around an old public toilet block …for burgers.
Berlin’s Memorial to the Murdered Jews of Europe
Under a moody but still sky, we walked silently through and around Berlin's Memorial to the Murdered Jews of Europe … consisting of 2,711 concrete slabs or "stelae", of varying heights, in a grid pattern upon an undulating field. From a distance, it captures a cemetery's sombre mood and layout….
Kleinmarkthalle Magic in Frankfurt, Germany.
Every city has little pots of treasure where the locals gather to trade the ingredients for living: ingredients, advice, news and salacious gossip.
Pondering: The cold truth of white goods
How an innate, energy-sucking, fridge, plugged this restless nomad into domesticity.
Memory: Hoi An,Vietnam
Recollections of Hoi An Ancient Town, wash through me as a river of images, colours, and intimate moments.
Memory: Viking Cruise - Norway
Ever intrigued by the Aurora Borealis aka the Northern Lights, I was determined to catch a glimpse at some point in this life… and I did… upon the deck of the Viking Star.
Memory: Viola Cruise - Halong Bay, Vietnam
We found bliss upon the deck of the Viola Cruise as it cruised from Ha Long Bay into Bai Tu Long Bay… or maybe that was the rum-laced egg coffee’s influence!
Memory: Grand Hyatt - Beijing,China
From atop the Great Wall of China to the Hyatt basement’s glorious, yet fake, tropical oasis. This was a day I’ll never forget.
Memory: Rambutan - Siem Reap,Cambodia
First, Siem Reap captured a piece of my heart; then, Rambutan provided a beautiful, gentle oasis for it to exhale and relax within.
Memory: Sofitel Adelaide - South Australia
Voulez-vous coucher avec moi ce soir? What was that? Do I want to sleep with you tonight? In le tres French Sofitel? Oui, oui, yes!
